Sleek New Build with Private Roof Deck in East Austin

A tall narrow infill house finished in 2022 on a tight lot two streets back from East Sixth, designed to get light and outdoor space out of a plot that has neither in abundance. The answer was to go up. The ground floor is one open room, polished concrete underfoot, black steel glazing at both ends so light runs straight through, with a kitchen in matte black and white quartz along one side. Two bedrooms and a bathroom sit on the first floor in white oak and plaster. The third floor is given over to a single room that opens onto a roof deck with a clear view west to the downtown towers, which is the reason to buy the house. Cladding is charred shou sugi ban timber over a white stucco base, deliberately dark against the neighbours. There is a small fenced yard at the rear with a mature hackberry, and a covered space for one car.
